Looking for treasures at flea markets

Indossare gli abiti di certi stilisti è come cambiare vita. » 

(Intervista di Yohji Yamamoto su Elle del 1992) In queste parole lo stilista giapponese Yohji Yamamoto esprime l'essenza dello stile: lo stile infatti non è vestirsi facendo affidamento solo a brand di alta gamma con il logo ben in vista, tutt'altro, lo stile è il riuscire ad abbinare un abito elegante di un famoso couturier con una sciarpa colorata marocchina o indiana trovata in un mercatino, unendo accessori di varie parti del mondo, magari vintage con un po' di storia alle spalle, colori e stampe batik, e un bel cappello. L'importante è, nell'insieme, riuscire a equilibrare: non essere troppo vistosi tipo clown ma neanche anonimi. Perché in quegli abbinamenti e in quei pezzi particolari trovati nei mercatini, riusciamo a ritrovare la nostra personalità ed esprimere un po' di noi stessi. The important thing is, on the whole, to be able to balance: not too garish clown type but not anonymous. Because in those combinations and in those particular pieces found at flea markets, we find our personality and express a bit 'of ourselves.
